Outline

Peter and Shirley didn’t need a new kitchen so much as they wanted one. The room worked, but the feel had run its course, and they were ready to upgrade it into something they would enjoy walking into every day.

What they were after was a proper shaker kitchen: traditional in its bones, modern in how it sat in the home. We designed and installed a Caledonia Classic Kintyre Ash kitchen, painted in Northern Lights with Porcelain wall units, topped with Quartzform Ocean Arctic worktops and fitted with a full suite of Neff appliances.

The Vision

Peter and Shirley came to Bernard, Senior Designer at Victoria Kitchens, with a clear idea of the feeling they wanted rather than a list of faults to fix. A shaker kitchen, painted and warm, traditional enough to feel timeless but modern in the way it worked day to day.

Two things shaped the plan from the start. The room drew its natural light from windows on two adjacent walls, so the working runs had to wrap those windows without crowding them. And with the floor coming up as part of the upgrade, we laid warmup electric underfloor heating before the new flooring went down, so the finished room would be warm underfoot from the first morning.

The 3D Blueprint

Bernard McGettigan, our Senior Designer, shaped the room as a U-shape with a peninsula for seating, so the cooking, storage, and gathering each had their own space without stepping on one another.

A tall bank of cabinetry takes care of the ovens, wine cooler, and concealed fridge-freezer, while a venting hob keeps the worktop clear and the view to the window open.

The Handover

The build was managed by Stefan with installers Vanya and Ruslan, starting with a full strip-out, the underfloor heating, and new flooring before a single cabinet went in.

Cabinetry and the Ocean Arctic worktops were fitted with the splashback, upstand, and windowsills coordinated as one run, and the Caple tap was set into the corner alongside the sink. By handover, every snag was resolved and the room was ready to live in.
